  • Description

The AAL-AC Series Automatic Self-Cleaning Filter by AAL Filter is a high-performance automatic screen filter designed for continuous industrial water filtration. Engineered for reliable operation in demanding environments, this industrial self-cleaning filter automatically removes accumulated contaminants through an intelligent cleaning mechanism triggered by differential pressure or preset time intervals.

Featuring a robust stainless steel wedge wire screen, the AAL-AC filter delivers precise filtration from 20 to 3000 microns, ensuring effective protection for downstream equipment such as heat exchangers, pumps, and membrane systems. The system performs automatic backwashing without interrupting the filtration process, allowing continuous flow and stable system operation while significantly reducing manual maintenance and operational costs.

Widely used in industrial water treatment, wastewater recycling, cooling water systems, and membrane pretreatment, the AAL-AC Series Automatic Self-Cleaning Filter provides an efficient and reliable solution for high-flow and heavily contaminated applications.

Working Principle

Filtration: The fluid enters through the inlet and flows out through the fine gaps of the wedge-shaped filter element. Impurities and particles are easily trapped on the filter surface. As these particles accumulate, a pressure difference is generated across the filter.

Cleaning: When the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet reaches 1.2 kg/cm² (adjustable), the filter’s backwashing system automatically activates. The operation is controlled by a differential pressure controller mounted on the unit, an electric drain valve, and a motor-driven rotating stainless steel cleaning brush. The impurities are easily removed by the brush and discharged through the drain valve. The backwashing process lasts about 60 seconds (adjustable), and continuous flow is maintained during cleaning.

Key Features

1. Fully Automatic Self-Cleaning Operation

The AAL-AC Automatic Self-Cleaning Filter is equipped with an intelligent electric cleaning system that automatically activates based on differential pressure or preset timer control. This ensures continuous and reliable filtration while minimizing manual intervention and system downtime.

2. Continuous Filtration Without Flow Interruption

During the cleaning cycle, the self-cleaning screen filter continues filtering without stopping the process flow. This design ensures stable system operation and protects downstream equipment in continuous industrial processes.

3. High-Precision Stainless Steel Wedge Wire Screen

The filter uses a high-strength stainless steel wedge wire screen that provides precise industrial filtration accuracy from 20 to 3000 microns. The wedge wire structure also offers excellent mechanical strength, high open area, and strong resistance to clogging.

4. Mechanical Cleaning with Brush or Scraper Options

The automatic self-cleaning mechanism can be configured with either a stainless steel brush-type or scraper-type cleaning system, depending on the fluid characteristics and contamination level. Both designs provide effective removal of accumulated solids and ensure long-term reliability.

5. Low Backwash Water Consumption

The industrial self-cleaning filter uses an optimized backwash structure that requires less than 1% of the total system flow, significantly reducing water loss and improving overall system efficiency.

6. Compact Linear Structure for Easy Installation

The compact linear design allows flexible installation in pipelines and easy integration into skid-mounted filtration systems or retrofit projects, making it suitable for various industrial filtration environments.

7. Designed for High Flow and Heavy Contamination

FAQ – Automatic Self-Cleaning Filters

1. What is an automatic self-cleaning filter?

An automatic self-cleaning filter is a filtration system designed to automatically remove accumulated particles from the filter screen without stopping system operation. Using differential pressure or timer-based control, the filter initiates a cleaning cycle that removes contaminants while maintaining continuous filtration.

2. How does an automatic self-cleaning screen filter work?

An automatic self-cleaning screen filter works by passing liquid through a stainless steel screen that captures suspended solids. As contaminants accumulate on the screen surface, the system detects an increase in differential pressure or reaches a preset cleaning interval. The internal cleaning mechanism—such as a brush or scraper system—then removes the particles and flushes them out through a drain outlet.

3. What filtration accuracy can a self-cleaning filter provide?

Most industrial self-cleaning filters provide filtration accuracy ranging from 20 microns to 3000 microns, depending on the screen type and application requirements. Stainless steel wedge wire screens are commonly used because they provide high strength, precise filtration, and strong resistance to clogging.

4. What are the advantages of an automatic self-cleaning filter?

Compared with traditional manual filters, automatic self-cleaning filters offer several advantages:

● Continuous filtration without system shutdown

● Reducd manual maintenance and labor costs

● Lower backwash water consumption

● Stable operation in high-flow industrial systems

● Effective protection for downstream equipment

5. Where are automatic self-cleaning filters commonly used?

Automatic self-cleaning filters are widely used in industrial water filtration applications, including cooling water systems, membrane pretreatment (UF/RO), wastewater treatment, petrochemical processing, power plants, food & beverage production, municipal water supply, and seawater desalination pretreatment.

6. What is the difference between a self-cleaning filter and a basket strainer?

Both self-cleaning filters and basket strainers are commonly used for removing suspended solids from liquids in industrial filtration systems, but they differ significantly in operation and maintenance.

A basket strainer uses a removable perforated or mesh basket to capture particles. When the basket becomes clogged, the system must be manually shut down and opened so the basket can be removed and cleaned. Basket strainers are typically used in systems with lower contamination levels or where manual maintenance is acceptable.

In contrast, an automatic self-cleaning filter is designed for continuous operation. It automatically removes accumulated contaminants from the filter screen using a mechanical cleaning mechanism such as a brush, scraper, or suction system, triggered by differential pressure or timer control. This allows the filtration system to remain online without interrupting the flow, significantly reducing labor and downtime.

Because of these advantages, automatic self-cleaning filters are widely used in cooling water systems, industrial water treatment, membrane pretreatment, and high-flow applications, where continuous filtration and minimal maintenance are required.
